BEC announced as finalists in The PIEoneer Awards

We are delighted to announce that Broadstairs English Centre has been selected as a finalist in The PIEoneer Awards 2020 in the category ‘Language Educator of the Year’. This was only possible because of our amazing team whose dedication ensures that every student we welcome has a unique childhood experience.

We have worked hard to create a learning-centred school which makes the most of the short time our young guests are with us. This helped to shape our mission ‘to create one continuous learning experience to which every member of staff and every homestay provider contributes’.

At the heart of our wrap-around learning is training for all concerned, not just for our teachers. In 2019 we piloted our Cert LASOL (Leading Activities to Speakers of Other Languages) for activity leaders which included sessions on use of language, use of voice, behaviour management and cultural awareness. We even extended our training to homestay providers, who now benefit from our compulsory HELP training (Homestay English Language Provision). This builds on the excellent service they already provide by introducing them to basic techniques that facilitate conversation with their students.

We are proud to be flying the flag for Quality English as the only UK-based finalist.
