Cork English College are delighted to announce the appointment of Colm O’Mahony to the position of Academic Manager. Colm is a native of Cork City, and brings a wealth of academic & professional experience to the CEC Academic Department. Hear his story in his own words:
“I began my teaching journey in 2008 when I completed the ACELS CELT qualification. Shortly afterwards I went to Jakarta, Indonesia to begin teaching. What I had initially intended to be a 12 month stay ended up being 9 amazing years. During my time in Indonesia, I worked in both language academies and in international schools, with the last 5 years of my stay spent working in the latter and teaching the Cambridge International O-Level and AS-Level English curriculum.
Also, while in Indonesia, I began studying to take the Trinity DipTESOL, which I successfully completed in 2017. Upon returning to Ireland in 2018, I enrolled in the master’s in TESOL programme in the University of Limerick and graduated with First Class Honours in 2019, writing my dissertation on the use of display questions as a means to mediate and augment discourse within the communicative classroom.
Away from work, I’m an avid record collector and, much to chagrin of my wife, I often spend money I don’t have on albums I don’t need! I also enjoy reading (I’m currently reading Slapstick, by Kurt Vonnegut), watching football (a life-long Liverpool fan whose years of hardship in the 90s are finally being rewarded), and walking my dog, Cheese.
I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to join the excellent team here at CEC. I always endeavor to better myself, and I can’t think of a better environment in which to develop my professional skill-set or a better opportunity to work hand in glove with such an experienced group of ESL professionals.”
Colm’s appointment to CEC is another positive step in the right direction as our industry continues to recover and is a testament to our commitment to the highest academic & educational standards.
