The Wisconsin ESL Institute's (WESLI) Junior Winter Camp 2024 has wrapped up and was an incredible time of fun, learning, and snow! Through this program, students have a unique opportunity to participate in American traditions during the Midwest Winter! Wisconsin loves the winter and life does not stop here during the colder weather. The snow and frozen lakes provide many exciting outdoor activities, and the cozy nights indoors are a nice time to relax with hot chocolate and warm meals.
Throughout the Winter Camp, students interacted in daily lessons where they used English skills to learn about local culture. Student engage in discussions to share their own cultures, practice local idioms, and create multi-skill projects documenting their study abroad experience.
In the afternoons and weekends, they participated in activities that immersed them in the local community and wintertime experience in Madison, Wisconsin. Students enjoyed skiing, ice skating, sledding, and snowshoeing, as well as visits to the University of Wisconsin, Harley Davidson Museum, and a local high school. Local American families opened their homes to the students, sharing their favorite winter activities and foods.
This year students from Peru, Panama, and Japan joined the Winter Camp. We look forward to welcoming more junior students from around the world for next year's Winter Camp!
