Lewis Launches Website for Thai Teachers

Lewis School of English, in partnership with Thailand TESOL, have launched a brand-new website full of teaching resources, EnglishCuppa.uk. Aimed at primary school English teachers in Thailand, the site provides original lesson plans, downloadable worksheets and editable templates – all created by the inventive team of teachers at Lewis School.

The work was supported and funded by the British Council, IATEFL and English UK as part of PRELIM3 (Partnered Remote Language Improvement Project). As with the other participating schools, Lewis, which has taken part in all three PRELIM projects so far, was tasked with creating a set of resources for teachers.

The team at Lewis spoke to a focus group of teachers in Thailand and it was decided to produce a resource package aimed at Years 4-6. The group felt there were three main types of materials that teachers needed more access to – reading texts, pronunciation tasks and communication activities.

Lewis School had a further aim of creating a product that could evolve and be self-sustaining beyond the project lifecycle. As a result, they created an interactive website where users can log in, rate and review materials, save favourites, and also share ideas to help and inspire other English Cuppa users. In a section humorously called the ‘CommuniTea’, teachers can upload materials they have created themselves using the editable and adaptable worksheet templates provided.

There are already nearly 600 registered users in the English Cuppa community following its launch at the Thailand TESOL conference, and feedback has been very positive. Supranee from Thailand commented, “I think English Cuppa is a playground for me… I think your template makes me create more and more materials with the right directions.”

Naturally, Lewis School’s creativity extends to their own materials and classroom practice – they have their own specially designed syllabuses for adult, junior and teacher training programmes, provide bespoke courses and have been engaging English language learners since 1976.
