Meet Paula Bibang Mangue!
Paula has been studying at New York Language Center from January to July 2023. After completing her undergraduate degree in China, she decided to come to New York City to work on her English language skills. During those 7 months enrolled at NYLC, Paula made friends, participated in activities and most importantly did not lose sight of her goals! First, she had to improve her communications skills.
At NYLC, the local and international students receive strong academic support on their journey to higher education. NYLC’s student life department curates a series of college workshops that teach about the U.S. college application process and gives access to university partners all over. From choosing a field of study, to learning about financial aid resources, these free workshops open the door to quality education.
In sharing her story, Paula found herself to be lucky. On the day that Dani Richter, former Partnerships Manager at Shorelight was scheduled to facilitate one of those workshops at the NYLC- Queens location, Paula had a scheduling conflict and couldn’t be among the attendees. She worried she wouldn’t get a chance to meet the shorelight representative as she was getting ready to complete her ESL program. Luckily, one of her classmates who had attended the meeting told her all about the presentation and just like that Paula was able to get in touch with the school's student life department and partners at Shorelight. From there, Dani continued providing her with immediate assistance in picking the right program and school for her career goals! Two weeks after submitting her application, Paula received her acceptance letter from Adelphi University’s MBA in Marketing program.
Paula’s progress at NYLC, and the encouragement of her teachers Antonio and Alba helped her gain all the confidence she needed to be successful in her college-level classes.
So what’s planned for the future? Paula aims to maintain a 4.0 GPA. She is on her way to earn an internship that will support her transition into the job of her dreams.
NYLC is proud to call Paula one of their own!
