Wimbledon School of English reopened its doors on Monday 3rd August, and everything has been running smoothly with the new regulations in place. General English and IELTS preparation classes are underway, the coffee shop is open, the social programme is active and Wimbledon town centre is returning to its vibrant self, with lots to do for students coming to London to study English.
With the situation changing each week from country to country, we have taken into account the needs of students who may have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival. Students will be allowed to quarantine in their homestay or student house for the duration, and they won't miss out on their lessons. We will live-stream the lessons to the student so that they will join the classes at the normal time, and be with everyone in our WSE classroom virtually. So students will still be able to get to know their teacher and classmates before they can join them physically. They will also be able to join our regular online social programme which includes guided virtual tours of popular British tourist attractions, online Language Cafés, online karaoke, quizzes and more. 14 days will go by very quickly for the students, and the most important thing for us is that they arrive safely and enjoy their time here in Wimbledon.
Zoe from Switzerland was part of our online lessons recently, here are her thoughts on the classes:
‘When I first heard about having online classes I was quite sceptical about it. However, I gave it a go and now I’m very happy. Clearly, it isn’t the same as normal classes, but at the moment there isn’t a better solution to the actual situation. It’s fascinating how authentic online-classes are to real ones. What’s more, our teachers are as motivated as they were in school and they try hard to give their best effort. It is a new experience for all of us, but we learn together and that’s great fun! I’m very grateful to have these modern techniques nowadays, which help us, even more, to keep in touch with each other in times like these.’
From September, it won't just be General English and IELTS preparation courses in the school. We will be offering some of our originally scheduled courses including Business English, OET Preparation and Cambridge Exam Preparation.
