Why do you think your school is a Quality English school?

English in York (EiY) has been established in York for over 35 years and we take great pride in the standards that we set, especially in 2 areas. Firstly, the standard of teaching in the classrooms, which is closely monitored by our excellent DOS and her academic team, but also because of the outstanding pastoral care that we provide for our students.

We have many many return students, as well as many students who register as a result of referrals from past students. Students who study at EiY are aware that they will be personally known by all admin and academic members of the school and never be “just a name” or just “a student ID number”

What made you join Quality English?

Initially because our owners, the Claret Group in Malta, have a QE school called ESE and they strongly recommended that EiY should aim to become a member. However, membership also opens up endless possibilities of quality contacts with similar schools and agencies overseas and makes it easier to approach such organisations if we can say that we too are a QE member.

What are the main reasons to recommend English in York to an international student wishing to study in English?

I would always recommend a student study at EiY, firstly because of the reasons outlined above. It is a medium sized school, with a capacity of around 95 student yet our students always feel very welcome and at home from Day 1. We make sure that all students are well supported from the moment that they enter our magnificent Georgian style building (built in 1725) to start their courses.

The standard of teaching is excellent and although we stipulate a maximum of 12 students per class, average class size is normally between 6 – 8 students. Our host families are excellent, working with us all year round and we take great care to place students with the most suitable host family.

And finally the wonderful city of York. With its rich history, many tourist attractions and 100% English feel, it is attractive and welcoming to students of all ages and all nationalities. All students are enchanted by this magical and friendly city ……
