Lewis Launches Online Storytelling Course for Teachers

The Lewis School of English is proud to introduce its ‘Storytelling for Teachers’ online course. This 4-week programme is one of five online teacher training courses, and is designed to equip educators with essential storytelling techniques to enhance classroom engagement.

This latest course is the product of a partnership between Lewis School and Cambridge Nazareth Trust (CNT), who in combination have been delivering teacher training to Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) schools in Jordan, Israel, and Palestine since 2013. Initially held in person, the shift to online training came in 2020, coinciding with the global call to stay safe and stay at home. The LPJ teachers embraced this digital transition, engaging enthusiastically in Lewis School’s online courses, which included ‘Helping Students with Pronunciation’, ‘Student-Centred Teaching’ and ‘Getting Creative with Resources’. ‘Communicative Teaching and Activities’ then launched in 2022.

In April 2024, LPJ teachers approached Lewis School with a special request: they asked for an online storytelling course for educators. In response, a collaborative effort between the school’s Teacher Training department and Theatre Express experts resulted in the development of a comprehensive, 4-module course. The program covers drama-based activities, voice work, text selection, story writing, character development, and storytelling techniques. Tailored content is provided based on the age of learners, and the course culminates in teachers presenting their own original stories via video, giving them the chance to implement everything they have learnt over the previous weeks.
With these first Storytelling for Teachers courses trialled and launched, they are now available for booking throughout 2025, alongside storytelling courses for language learners. To find out more about Lewis Online Learning, visit the Lewis School website or the Lewis Online Learning platform.
Lewis School extends heartfelt thanks to CNT for their support and to the LPJ teachers for their dedication. The school looks forward to witnessing the impact of storytelling in classrooms around the world.
