Developing our students' academic writing skills

This session goes beyond the General English focus on language and sentence / paragraph level writing to highlight two of the writing skills required for academic writing success (task achievement and coherence); we will see how materials like Macmillan's Skillful scaffold these skills and how they can be of benefit to IELTS and EAP students alike.

Neil Harris is the Director of Marketing at CELT Centre for English Language Teaching, Cardiff, coming to this role via teaching and academic management roles (General English and EAP tutor; course developer and co-ordinator, DoS) in private language schools and in HE. Neil is a CELTA trainer and has particular expertise in teaching academic writing having developed academic writing modules on a UK university pre-sessional programme.
